This was a huge race in Richmond, VA. There were over 37,000 participants. Luckily, I was in the first wave of runners and didn't have to deal with too much lap traffic.
I signed up for this race not knowing what my coach would have planned for the weekend. I was in the thick of my marathon training and my schedule called for 17 miles the day of the race. Therefore, I got up early and did an 8 mile warmup. This was a tad longer than most of my warmups for a 10k and my legs felt it during the race. However, I was still able to set a 30second PR for the 10k without a all out effort. That was very encouraging. I finished with a 3 mile cooldown.
The race was well organized and they give out reusable grocery bags as part of the swag. They are very handy! The weather was almost ideal. It was around 40 degrees at race time and the sun was bright. The course was pretty flat. I hope to come back next year with some fresh legs and do even better.
