| Flying Pirate Half Marathon |
| I jumped into this race at the last minute! I decided on Monday to go to the OBX and try my hand at the half. Not really taking into consideration that I had not trained for this distance - oh well! The day started off with cool temps in the low 50's and bright sunshine. I started off well and kept my desired pace for the first 10 miles, then the bottom fell out! We entered into nature preserve and the course got more difficult. The last 2 miles were hilly and then the end took us uphill and curved around to a mulched downhill finish. I was frustrated to have 3 ladies pass me during the last 3 miles but as I tried to keep up with them, mentally I wasn't there! There was only 35 seconds or so between me and the 3rd place lady. I ended placing 6th female, 2nd open female masters, 3rd NC USATF female and 1st NC USATF female masters. Not bad for a last minute decision!! |
