| Great Raleigh Road Race |
| The Great Raleigh Road Race lived up to its name for my wife Sue and me. My parents are in town and watched the kids, so we both could race! A nice way to start our anniversary celebration day. The weather cooperated with one of the coolest July mornings I can remember in Raleigh. At the starting line I noticed that even though the overall turnout was low, the number of fast runners was rather high, led by several RRO team members. I've run this race twice now, and like the course, as it starts up Hillsborough for nearly a mile, winds through shady residential areas with a few hills in the middle 2 miles, then goes back down Hillsbrough to the finish near the Capitol. I set my 4 mile PR here last year and thought I had a shot at bettering it this year. I ran the first mile in 6:16, 4 seconds faster than last year, and the 2nd mile in 6:14, so was in good shape halfway through. I was able to pass several runners in miles 2 and 3 and still turn it up a little in the last mile to better my PR by 13 seconds! My wife also set a PR today, so we have an extra reason to celebrate at our anniversary dinner tonight. |
